The many friends of Mrs J. It. Kaan will be pleased to hear that she is progrossing favourably after her recent operation in a private hospital in Christchurch. A vote of condolence with Rev. G. X. Brown in the death of Airs Brown was passed at the annual meeting of members of the Baptist Church last night. Miss Rita Liddoll and Air E. Dymock have been appointed part time instructors in shorthand und building construction respectively at the Technical School. Webb, will bo appointed to the judiciary and made president of the Queensland Arbitration Court.

Air W. W. Sutton, postmaster atEltham, has been appointed to the position of senior supervisor of the telegraph department at the local office. Messrs E. 11. Alarriott and H. W. Allan, who have both held the position of telegraph superintendent at Palmerston North, have been promoted —Air Allan superintendent at Wellington and Air Alarriott superintendent at Dunedin.

Air Edwin N. Gunsaulus, American Consul at Wellington, who is under transfer Irom the Consular Servico in New Zealand, has written to the secretary of the Palmerston North Luncheon Club regretting that he will be unable to pay the club a visit before he departs. In the course of his lotter, Air Guusaulus statod that ho was leaving tho Dominion deeply impressed with tlie kindness of the people of Palmerston North, and for that reason had been particularly anxious to have fulfilled his promise to address the club members.
