' I A discursion took place at the Stock • Exchange to-day regarding a telegram published m the Herald yesterday sia'.iug that 30lbs of picked stone , were secured at the new Monowai : mine. The telegram purported to ■ have con e from the supervisor, Mr H. Adams, and was received by telephone, j It transpired that it was a bogus one. The matter was placed by the Herald in the hands of tho police. ( Consequent on the publication of the telegram shares sold freely yesterday, advancing from -IUI to Is. To-dav's quotations are—Buyers. 4d ; sellers, 7d The Exchange negatived a motion by the cha rraan to cancel all sales, but authorised a committee to incur expenditure and make the fullest enquiry. Jt was also resolved that all transfers of sales be handed to the chairman and payment for shares withheld pending the committee's report.
