The Wool Sales.
Market Still Firm(By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). Per Press Association. (Received May 25, at 8.29 a.m.) LONDON, May 21 At the London wool sales 90,000 bales were sold for Home consumption, 57,000 for the Continent, 9000 for America, and 9000 was held over. The departure of some of the chief buyers and the diminished American competition, caused irregularity this week. Compared with- the closing prices of March sales, best greasy merino remained practically unchanged ; medium and inferiors were 5 per cent, higher till Monday, closing at par to 5 per cent, higher; scoureds were in strong request at a 5 per cent, auvance; medium crossbreds suitable for America sometimes declined a halfpenny; topmakers' sorts closed very firm at opening rates, but lost the extreme prices of the middle series; lamb is unchanged. The outlook is promisand there is small prospect of any alleviation m the tightness of the market till the new clip arrives. Supplies for the current year are likely to be altogether inadequate at the present rate of The fleece portions of the following clips were sold :—Motuna, 15 *d; Eakio, 13i-d ; Puketoi, 12|d; Okerae, 13-J-d.
