Per Press Association. GORE, This Day. A matter of importance to local bodies cropped up at the Borough Council last night. It was reported that the contractors for the electrical extension works were pressing for payment ot a balance of £750 due on their contract which was completed over a year ago. It was stated the Council withheld payment because the Engineer refused to hand the Council the original plan and specifications to enable the items to be checked claiming the plans as his private It was resolved to take legal advice whether the Council is able to enforce the demand for the plan and specifications. A heavy snowstorm is raging. NELSON, This day. The Acting-Minister ot Railways, who is now in Nelson, has announced that the Government is spending .€16,000 in greater wharfage improvements at Nelson, considering the success ot the new harbour entrance assured. The coldest night of the season was experienced last night, the thermometer being under 40 in shade at 10 a.m. NAPIER, This Day. At the resumed inquest on John Madeley, w r ho died at the hospital last week from injuries to his head, a verdict was returned of death from cerebral hemorrhage, following on an operation for injuries, with no evidence to show how the injuries occurred. The evidence pointed to deceased having fallen off his horse while drunk.
