■ From Our Own Correspondent.) A well attended meeting" was held in the schoolroom on Saturday, May 12th, the object being to consider the proposal to erect a public hall in the township. Mr Hills was voted to tne chair, and ifter much discussion it was decided to proceed with the erection of a hall as soon as |X)ssible. A strong committee was formed to take the matter in hand and about j£2o was subscribed in the room. Miss Blockridge, late of Queensland, has taken up her duties as assistant in the Kuahine school. The contractor proceeds with the erection of the headmaster's residence curly next month. For several days last week the main road to Maugaweka was blocked by .slips, hut the mails were carried on horseback. Building trade is very brisk m this district at present as the result of a report re the departure of Messrs Goodbehere and Eng'.s sawmill at an early date. Dairying operations are now on the ebb and the local factories are running only three times a week
