Te Aute Trust Lands
— Per Press Association. NAPIER, May 14. Tho Royal, Commission appointed to enquire into the administration of tho To Auto Education trust lands, resumed ita sitting" to-day. The only ovideuco taken to-day was that of Bishop William?, one of tho Trustees. Ho stated thai tho lands of the Tntsl were leased to Archdeacon S. Williams. Tho annual revenue wa# u#i?d in the maintenance of the Te Auto College School and the Hukarcro Native Girls' School. .Tho Trustees approved of the system of education in tho schools though they did not interfere in the details of tho management, which in j tho case of Te Auto «chcol wan in the j hands of the headmaster and tho Archdeacon. and of tho Ilukarero School by Mies Williams. Tho accounts in connection with tho trust funds wcro nubmittcd annually to tho Wai&pu Diocesan Synod and triennally to tho General Synod The present tenant had been in possession for many years, and the trustees considered ho was entitled to some consideration in tho way of renewal. Before entering into the existing lease, which was executed about two or three years ago, and is for twelve years, a valuation of tho property was made by an independent and competent valuer, and they also had the land tax valuation. Tho present rent wits considered a perfectly fair one taking those valuations into consideration. Witness was satisfied that taking all the eircumstiun'cs into consideration the Trustees had done all the? could for the Trust, and under the present management the school had developed into an important institution well-known throughout the colony. In addition to the Trust funds the money for the llukarere building was privately subscribed and a great deal of money had been spent there and lit Te Ante by Archdeacon Williams out of his own private pocket . Tlie Commission adjourned until I Thursday.
