Borough Council.
After the special meeting of the Borough Council last night the adjourned meeting was continued.
It was decided on Cr Goodger's motion, seconded by Cr France, that no action be taken re Mr J. B. Clarkson's request when waiting on the Council, but a copy of the former resolution be forwarded to Mr Clarkson.
On. Cr Essex's motion it was decided that it shall be.the duty.of any member of this Council,setting up- a committee to 'call such committee, together for the consideration of any business for which the committee was set up. On Cr Essex's motion, seconded by Cr Goodger, it was resolved that in future all letters or telegrams written by any Borough official upon Borough matters shall, before posting or delivery, be copied into a book kept for that purpose in the town clerk's office and for the care of which the town clerk shall be responsible.
EJS GINEER'S REPORT.
The Engineer reported re the storm water on Mr C. W. Borreson's property, Pahiatua-street, that the water was backed on to Mr Borreson's laDd by the culvert under the roadway being blocked. The culver, had been blocked evidently by either the present or previous owners on tho opposite side of the street by filli>. g in and placing a bank on their land jus*..inside the fence ; the culvert was probably put in at the time the road was formed and consists *of either an 8 or 9-inch earthenware pipe. He rrported on an application from Mrs Rush for a water service to herdwelliDg in J. itzroy-st'reet.. Ro'suggestions of Mr Stoddart, of Bristol, England, made through; Messrs Meason.'and Marohant, of Timar.u, as to the lateßt improvements In septic tank practice, our tanks as originally designed will admirably comply with the practice outlined by Mr Stoddarfc, the only requirements being to strengthen * the central division wall slightly an d to provide the grooves for the scum boards, this he had ordered to be done as the work of building the tank walls is now iv hands.
No action was taken in regard to Mr Borreson's letter. .
It was decided to grant Mrs Rush's request. ,;
The report in reference to the septic tank was adopted.
SEWERAGE SCHEME,
The Engineer reported in reference to the sewerage scheme :—" I propose calling tenders for the laying of the sewers in the following "streets :—Grey-street, King-street, Queen-street, Amesburystreet, Albert-street; and Broad-street, tenders to be returnable on thelßth inst., the plans are also ready for the contract for Main-street, George street, David-street, Domain-street, WiUisstreet, and Short-streets, but I propose not to call tenders for this work until just before the Show, so [that the contract can be commenced immediately the Show is over."
v Qn.Cr Armstrong's motion, it was devoided that the Council, do its own.,pipe laying and cementing, and on Cr Essex's motion that tenders for tne other work be called in both papers. A sum of .2153 was passed to. D. Burke on his contract for septic tanks and filters; ani £5 5s to G. Giblin for breaking road metal.. BEAUTIFYING ASSOCIATION. On Or [Essex's motion, the Reserves' Committee was empowered, to interview the Beautifying Society with reference to the care of the plots and other works in the enclosures;, also, that the Reserves Committee be instructed to have the toolshed removed, and that any plots unallotted be suitably planted.
FIRE BRIGADE BTATION. On Cr Browning'a motion, the engi.neer was requested to draw up plans and specifications for the additions to Central fire station; ~.*..''.
