Railway Arrangements.
iTa the Editor),,
, Sie,—ln your issue bf September 30lh a-paragraph ■ appears containing the query; How is it- that the /travelling public cannot get through from Napier to New[Plymouth and vice versa in.one day? This would:be-possible supposing a tram departed from Napier to arrive at Palmerston, to. catch*, the 1125 mail train from W ellirigton. ..- Oh perusing tho time-table I find the .mail train from Napier to Woodville departs from the former place at 8 45, arriving at the latter place at 12.50. Surely the Government could make up a little.- more thanan hour, reaching Palmerston .at 11, and, as above stated, ;catch the mail tram from Wellington. I think the - Government Rail w ay Department should put themselves in communication with the manager of the Great Central Kailway at Home. An article in the North Wilts Herald of the Bth May, 1904, shows the advantages of. travelling upon this line. .There is (1) thei convenience of . the weekly rr turn tiokets; (2) the travelling is good and progressive; (3) there is comfort, civility and enterprise. The last senfence in the article reads as- follows :— "The Great-Central Eailway can therefore be said to have attained a greater . national importance than any other line or combination of lines m the Kingdom * and all this is due to the energetic manager Mr Sam Fay." I am much afraid it will be a very long time before sueh 'comments will "bo passed by the travelling , public here. . ■ What reason have the two lines m trying to cut each other's throat. Are they not both working for the public good?. And *if the Government can put on a fast train, as suggested, why not do it with the utmost despatch, giving the public the advantage. .Thanking you for your valuable space. . I am, etc; ■
