BOROUGH STREETS.
The decision of the Borough Council, at .the meeting held last night", to take steps to procure and erect plates bearing'the names-of the various streets in the Borough, is" so commendable and so necessary that it is a wonder it has not been done before. The necessity for doing so has been many times mentioned in the Council previously but no definite steps were taken, while on more than one occasion visitors to, Palmerston have, through the columns of the Standard, drawn pointed attention to the deficiency of the town in this respect. The committee appointed by the Council' to make enquiries' in the matter will report at an early date, but, unfortunately, there does not appear any prospect that the improvement will be effected before Show-time when the in- \ formation is particularly required by the hosts of visitors to the town. However, judging from the -unanimity. displayed oii the subject last night there appears every reason to anticipate that the mafc.'ter will not-again be relegEited to oblivion, but will be an accomplished fact before long. ■ .
