The discussion which has been proceeding iii this district for some time in connection with the establishment of' a bacon company in Palmerston, has reached an important point. To-morrow afternoon the shareholders of the North Island Bacon Company meet at the Fire Brigade Hall to consider a- proposal to. erect a modern bacon factory on the Manawatu side of the Range, and also to discuss the advisability of increasing the capital of the Company. Although Ino indication is given in the advertisement as to the site of the proposed factory, there is not\the; slightest doubt that if the shareholders favor its. erection Palmerston will be selected as the most suitable town. It is admitted that this town possesses all the advantages needed for the works mentioned, and there are no persons more alive to that fact than the directors. If the shareholders agree to erect a modern factory in Palmerston we feel sure they will not regret their i decision, for while the works will be a decided gain to the town they will also be a great benefit to the Company for the reason that the latter will be in apposition to expand its business and increase its yearly turn-over to an extent which is totally, impossible under present' conditions. With the possibility of having the profits largely increased the project should Tjean alluring one to the, shareholders, and we therefore hope they will attend the meeting in large numbers ' to-morrow; and show by their votes that they are'in favor of a : progressive policy.
