The Scottish Entertainers.

The advent.to Palmerston North, of two celebrated Scottish entertainers, Miss Flora Donaldson and Mr Gavin Spence, is announced in to-day's issue. They are on tour round the world, and have just recently landed in New Zealand, having completed a most successful tour-through the United States. The Dunedin. Star of Sept. 13th, gives a gbwirig account of then* first performance. It describess Miss Flora Donaldson's voice as "rich, full and clear, eminently musical in its mezzo range, and used with particularly good effect as to enunciation, thereby revealing in all its charm her pure and easily r followed' Scottish accent; For these adorable qualities a mixed audience gladly forgave Miss Donaldson's not appearing as Helen McGregor, for half the Helen McGregors are only second-rate singers, As a matter of appearance, Miss Donaldson runs no risk in any case. Heaven has blessed her with personal comeliness and shapeliness. Of her contributions at the concert last night, the audience were most pleased with "Sound the. Pibroch" and the' ";Bonny Brier Bush," but her songs; were all thoroughly well sung, in good style from the note-making standpoint, and musically correct by reason of faultless enunciation and charming dcs: criptive colouring, that never gave, the idea of exaggeration. Mr Gavin likewise satisfied all .^present. - His tenor voice, noticeably true as to intonation being heard to great advantage in " The Hundred Pipers " and "Alton Water." His talking between whiles is invariably amusing. He impersonates the characters of his stories with versatility'and imparts the true Scottish flavour to his descriptions of everyday life. Moreover by reason of his artistic ability,, Mr Spence is acceptable to others besides those of Scottish birth. The entertain-: ment is one that appeals powerfully, to all. We .anticipate immense audiences in the Zealandia Hall on ; October 4th'; and sth.' .
