An official telegram was received here this morning to the effect that Timaru would be made a grading port for dairy produce in compliance with the wishes of the directors of the local dairy company.
AUCKLAND, This day. A sentence of twelve months' imprisonment was passed by Mr Kettle,. S.M,", on Charles Clarke, labourer, convicted of indecently exposing himself? to school girls. y
TAIHAPE, This daj'. The recent heavy rains have caused land slips to, occur here. A serious one occurred near the Mangaweka viaduct on Wednesday night, extending hundreds of-yards, completely burying'the railway, and stopping all trains. 'Taihape is cut off by heavy slips on the road between Taihape and MangaweKa. Coach traffic is at a. standstill. The Moawhango road .is blocked. :' Large gangs of men are busy clearing landslips away. If the rain continues more slips are expected.
WANGANUI, rJlm- 'day
The weather, which has been very wet and stormy for several days, is now clearing. The low-lying portions of the district are flooded and road traffic is interrupted in several places by water .and slips. The river is not very high and no trouble from that source is anticipated. ' ' "
