The building was only recently opened, business having been transferred to the new premises at a cost of over £400. The factory was the most complete of its kind in the colony, including bacon-cur-ing, small goods and waste product manufactures. The stock ■on hand, valued at £750, was all sold, besides which large orders had been received for the Christmas trade. Insurances— Building, £1050; plant, £950, stock, £500, m the United. The loss, is estimated at £1750 over the insurances. The origin of the fire is a mystery, but there is a strong suspicion of incendiarism, this being the eighth unexplained fire with eight months. An equinoctial gale, which was raging, rendered salvage impossible.
