North Island Bands' Association.

A meeting of the Executive of the North Island Bands' Association was held at the Council Chambers last night. Mr M. Cohen presided. New rules were agreed upon to the following effect:—Any band playing the test music for a forthcoming contest (in the town where the contest is to beheld) at a public performance for profit or otherwise will be disqualified; that for future contests the judge's salary shall not exceed _50, including all expenses; that no restriction be placed on any competing bands wearing medals, competition or service; no permanent defence officer be allowed to act as drum ma-jor to any band during contest; the Association will only provide medals and trophies for their annual contest; the secretary of the Contest Committee shall hard to the Association secretary a copy of his balance-sheet within 28 days of termination of contest.

It was also decided that solo competitions be deleted from the rules, so that contest committees caD arrange its own solo competitions.

The question of any association infringing the title of " The Worth Island Brass Bands' Association (registered)," was discussed at length, and it was decided to obtain legal advice with the object of making a, rule empowering the Association to take legal action in the matter.

The Secretary was instructed to ask the Auckland Band Contest Committee to, if possible, re-arrange their programme so that the test selections and marching competition' will take place within four days, instead of six as at present. The Secretary was. also instructed to point out to the Auckland Committee the increased expense put upon visiting bands by the present arrangements, which also may prevent bands living at a distance from attending, and retard the chances of others whose members cannot stay the whole six days.
