Wanganui Education. Board.
-The regular meeting of the above was held^last evening: —Messrs P. Y. Lethbridge, M.H.R., - Newman, Dixon, Carson, Atkinson, Pirani and Spurdle. Mr Fred Pirani was voted to the chair.
It was decided, on the motion of Mr Pirani, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, to re-elect Mr G. S. Bridge, chairman for the year.
Mr Bridge was granted leave of absence, and a motion was passed regretting the necessity of his undergoing an operation "and expressing a hope for his rapid recovery. It was decided that, until the chairman was able to resume his duties,' Mr F. M. Spurdle supervise the office work and carry out the duties usually performed by the chairman. On the motion of Mr .Newman, it was resolved that the Board place on record its appreciation of the services rendered the cause of education in the Wanganui district by the Rev. J. Ross during his term of service, extending over 25 years. Cash statement—General account, credit,' 16s 6d ; building account, credit, £19 13s lOd. ■

It", was decided to inform Mr Furrie that the Board objects to his leaving his school duties to go on a football tour without first getting leave from the Board.
The Selection Committee was authorised to make exchanges of teachers where advisable and possible.

The Education Department wrote objecting to £15 scholarships being granted toPahnerstonpupilsholdingfreeplacesin the High Schools as being contrary to the regulations under the Secondary Schools Act.—lt was decided to point out that the scholarships, were .approved, by the Education Departmenti and won. before the regulations were framed, and to reduce 'such-scholar ships in 'future-to^lO: a year. -•■ ■ •-..■,... ..■ The Inspector reported in favour of the proposed enlargement of the Bunnythorpe school site, and it was decided, on Mr Pirani's motion, to vote £35 towards the purchase of land. '
The Inspector reported in favour of the establishment of a school at Clydesdale, Carnarvon, and it was decided to give effect to the recommendation. Mr T. McKenzie attended to further the proposal. " : ■:■•■■■■■'■•- ">
1 A report from Mr Boss, re drainage at the Taihape school, was referred to the Committee for an estimate of the cost.
It was decided to grant the ■Crofton Committee £3 4.* towards cost of fence.
The Education Department-wired consenting to £60 additional being granted for Utiku school. •
The Education Department refused to give a grant for a school building, at Glenoroua or. to pay rent for the building at present used.
The Board did not approve of Major Loveday's proposal to hold encampments of school cadets.
A complaint from R. T. '■■." . Mr Morton's tender, of £340 10s was accepted for the Utiku school, and £8 5s granted for repairs at Jackeytown. Mr Speir's tender of J6102 was accepted for repairs at Foxton, COMMITTEES.

It was decided to protest against the delay of the Education Department in giving grants for buildings in nowlydistricts.
