DAMAGE TO ROADS.
(to Tin: KDITOH.)
Sir, —A short paragraph appeared in your paper the other day complaining about the amount of damage done to roads since the traction engine started, and in proof of such cited Foxton Line and the cost of keeping the same in renair to the tune of £200, as against £.0 before the traction started. Now, it seems a great pity that paragraph writers should not be a little more particular in regard to the veracity of ibe statement and so not fill their papers with gossip refuse at the street corners. The fact is this: First, I seldom ever go on the Foxton Line, and secondly, when I do so, it is on the old part of ihe road, and no mono}- has been spent on the road since the traction engine started to run. T would never have troubled to say anything about it, only people read the paper and take things for granted, of course not knowing the real facts.— I am, &C,
Caul A_i>r._so_
[Mr Anderson must know he is merely begging the question and that tho omission of the words " Ro.igote.. road" after "Foxton Line" quite altered the sense. In confirmation of our statements, at tho meeting of the Manaviatu County Council yesterday, Mr J. G. Wilson stated that Mr Luxford, chairman of the Kairanga County Council and late chairman of the Manawatu Road Board, had informed him that it had 'cost tho Board £200 per year to maintain the Foxton Lioe-Rongotea road since the advent of the traction engine, as against £-10 previously.— Ed.
