Oroua River.

A meeting of representatives of the Manawatu and Kairanga County Councils was held at tho latter's office yesterday afternoon to discuss a report received from Mr J. C. Fulton, relative to croteetive works neceosary at the Awahuri bridge approaches.' There wcro present, Messrs S. W. Luxford (chairman), Conlan, Hanson, Yoss, Mere, Hammond, Clarke, F. Eobiuson! and J. G-. Wilson.

The chairman read the report received from Mr Fulton.

The Chairman added that Mr ArmBtrong had boeu instructed to carry out temporary repairs, nnd he indicated tho naturo of the work being done. Ho did not know what Mr Fulton based the cost of tho materials upon, but he thought the work woald cost very much more. Mr Wilson described instances of successful work that had been carried out m the Wairarapa under similar circumstances , and ho thought there was every ciianco ot Mr Fulton's plan being sueoi'ssful. Messrs Clarke and Hammond also detailed equally iuccessfulinstances that had been dono by them and also carried out under their supervision. Mr Armstrong referred to the strength of the current at tho bridge, and i<dded the work he was carrying out, while not exactly of a temporary nature, would cost about £150. ■ . :

Replying to the chairman, Mr »Yilson stated his Council considered the best plan would be to carry out Mr Pulton's scheme.

Replying to tlio chairman, Mr > rmBtrong stated tbe work suggested by Mr Fulton in his report could not bo dono tor tho estimated cost.

The chairman stated that the Council would endeavour to carry out the report in its entirety in accordance with the wishes of the deputation, a resolution to this effect being carried. The deputation was accorded a vote of thanks for expressing their views on the question, and then withdrew.

Mr Armstrong was appointed, to superintend the work.
