COUNTY COUNCILLORS' EXPENSES.
Ax informal diseus-iou took jrlaee at tne mi'eiing of tho Kairanga Connty Couucil yesterday relative to the payment of expenses of Councillors. It was generally agreed by those present that it was only fair they should be recouped to some extent for the expense they were put to and the time expended in attending to their duties. It was pointed out that the feeling among the settlers was generally in favour of the Councillors being reimbursed, many of whom considered they were just," as much entitled to payment as members o£ Parliament, the Councillors giving their time and attention to the district the same as members gave theirs to the country. Horses had to be put up at stable?, Councillors had their personal expeuses, and In addition to the time occupied at meeting, lhe;v was the lime spent in attending to different matters all over the district. No action was taken at the time, but the matter will, doubtless, be brought before the Conn, cil at a later date.
