Tho ii:ual montlily mooting of the above council took place at Sanson loday. Present—Crs. J. G. Wilson (chnirman), Clarke, Hammond, and Masters. .Lcavo of absence was granted Cr. McLennan. COIIRESI'nNDEXCB. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows:— From Pateti, Haweva, and Eltham County Councils, approving jf reasons and suggestions b> Manawatu Council re Mnuawatu Railway; also returning petition signed. From F. L. Behrcnt, asking for extension of timo in which to complete his contract on Tnikorea road. From T. H. Simpson, (Oroua Bridge), asking Council to quote a price for flax growing on the roads at Baiuesse.
From "W. Richardson, stating he wss unable to supply 4ft matai to tram sht-d under 16s per cord
From Kairuncra County Council, asking t .'ouucil to appoint delegates to attend meeting ou 10th June to consider plans for Awahuri Bridge Protective Works.— Cr, Wilson reported he had attended on behalf of the Council.
From Hankins and Loughnan, wishing to know tho amount of rates pud on section 365, Carnarvon, from ush Djcembor. 1899.
From A. T. Jensoo, offering to snpply first-cla33 totara sleepers. From Sir J. G. Ward, ro the celebratioa of peace on Coronation Day, From J. Vile, suggesting that tenders bu culled for the carting of goods from Tramway Tenniuus to Bulls. _ Froni_ Roads Dopartment.aeknowledgmg objections lodged by Council ?n respect to bridge at Shannon. From W. Jewkins, Mt. Stewart, eomplnimug of the state of the road opposite his property, From Holden and Nicholas, offering to supply the Council \v:th a preparation lor the destruction of weeds. From G. S. Robertson, slating the proper time to apply the Atlas preservative was spring lime. From Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company, offering to reduce account for waggon hire by £3 los From Agricultural Department, forwarding form of license which had been duly approved for issue to Messrs C. and S. Easton, butchers, Foxlon. From Treasury, stating that £78 tramway collections had been paid to Council's credit.
From S. Donaldson, offering to ioad metal in trucks at Ohakea Terrace metal pit for Is (id per cubic yard. From Pascal Bros., complaining that the culverts had not been put in on the iNgawhakarauroad, thereby preventing them taking stock to the Palmerston markets.
From tho Horowheuua Council, re the Council s complaint of the slate of the road leading to the Shannon ferry. The \\ irokiuo Road Board had repaired the road, having spent £12 thereou. From C. J. Hill (Sanson). complaining of the state oE the tram crossing near lr.'s property, which was now impassible. From Barnaul and Abraham, asking for particulars of Council ro windmill and rock crushing machine required by them. From Sir J. OK Ward, re plague precautions, and suggesting men should be odiployed to trap rats. From Rongotea Dairy Company, asking to be supplied with 50 yards of metal.
From Chief Surveyor, asking to be supplied with field notes and traverses tabulations o£ his survey of j-cmcl through Oroua Downs, Prom Carl Anderson, m reply to Council's letter re damage done to roads by his traction engino. Mr Anderson, in the course of a lengthy reply, denied that excessive damage had been done, and that tho amount of damage reported was oxcessive.
FINANCE. Mr Purnell, County clerk, reported the various balances as under:—General account, dr £006 13s 8d; loan, cr £085 Us 2d; Hiding accounts—Sandon, dr £149 13s 7d; Mt. Stewart, cr £uG 12s 8d; Waitohi, dr £C 5459 d ; Eongotea, it £71 Gs Id; Carnarvon, dr £119 3s lid; Kawa Kawn, cr £15G 13s 2d Awahou, cr £29 8s lid.
Air James Hendersen, engineer, reported on the stato of the Council's engine, Weka, which, according to the report submitted, was badly in wani of repairs. Mr Henderson, who is. employed to repair the encine, paid a tribute to the excellent manner in which Mr T. R. Martin, of Palmerston, had cast tho brasses required. Mr Hendersen said tho work was equal (0 what could be obtaiu-d in any part of the colony, and very cheap.
_ inn tkamway. The lollowing are the returns from tho tramway: —Grain, 183 tonn; minerals, 23 tous ; merchandise, 77 tons; hemp, 42 tous; chaff, 14 trucks; firewood, 10 trucks; green flax, 24 trucks ; scrap iron, 1 truck; pigg, 4 trucks; tirobsr, 18,1 G4ft.; faros, £5. The tram receipts were £114 Cs Od expenses £Ui 18s Id. The debit is attributed, to the unusually heavy expense of repairing. INCHEASE OF WAGES. The roadmen's wages were increased by sixpence per day. The engine driver's request lor un increase of paylwas granted. KATES. The general current rate tor the year was fixed |d in the £ on all property. MISCELLANEOUS. Mr Boylo's offer to supply 400 yards of extra motal required between Taikorea and Sanson at Is 7d pur yard, was accepted. Tho CouitGil decidoi to "apply metal to ratepayers at 5s per yard between
