Ikvkp.cargilli, Juno 10. Tho young men named David Swanson and Frederick Dennott wore arrested at tho Bluff last night by Detective Mcllvonoy, charged with tho Rangiorn Hotel robbery, involving between £50 and igCO. Accused wore brought beforo tho Court to-day and remanded till to-morrow.

Dunkdin, June 9. At tho annual mooting of tho Liconsing Bench, very Rearching reports wcro submitted by tho polico. The chairman, Mr Graham, S.M., said tho committee had gone through tho report and intonded to draw attention to any dilapidation, etc., complainod of, and proposed in all cases whoro trouble was of suilioicnt importance, to merely grant a license for three [months, which menus thi\t unless matters aro put right by then tho license would lapse. In accordance with this decision, licenses wero only granted for three months to tho Australasian, Gridiron, Duko of Edinburgh, Farmers' Arms, Princo of Wales nnd Otago Hotels. In tho most of tha cases tho want of proper firo escapes was tho principal ground of complaint.
The Otago Daily Timos has had information given it of tho discovery cf a valuable deposit of gonuino rock phosphate, within SO miles south of Dunedin, ou the railway lino. The deposit has beon proved to soino extent, und it is claimed that it will effcut an immediate reduction in tho price of phosphate manure. ■ Thero is a list of 23 cases set down for tho Arbitration Court, which opens to-morrow. Auckland, JunoO. Tho Charitable Aid Board yesterday discussed the criticisms passed on tho Costley Homo by Lord liunfurly. Tho members generally thought the Governor's remarks unfair, and that ho hud gone too far. A resolution fixing 10s a week as lie amount charged for Imperial pensioners was rescinded, and it was decided that in future such inmates bo charged the actual amount of their keep. Sovoral members ivoro anxious that inmates ablo to keep themselves outside, should bo eompollcd to do so. Ai the Polico Court to-day, William John Parker appeared to answer tho following charges : That on tho 26th of May, at Parnell, he did attempt to murdor Elizabeth Martin, his Eon, William Bruce. Parker, and his wifo, Susun Parker. Also that ho did attempt, to commit suicide Parker, who showed tho mark of the bullet on his right templo, walked into the dock without assistance, and was quiet in his demeanour. Sub-Inspector Mitchell snid he would nsk for a remand for eight days, as tho injured persons wore still ininutos of the hospital, and wore not yet sufficiently recovered to be discharged. Tbo hospktil authorities had advised him that they would be ready to bo discharged in ten days. Tho accused was remanded until tho 17th hist. Kapier, Juno 9. Mr A. L. D. Fraser, M.H.R., address* d his constituents this evening. Tbe main points of his address were a strong criiicisui of tho present system of Government dealing in nativo lands, and on tho abnormal expenditure on coast dofeuco as compared with the amount sot apart for openiug up the country, and making roads and bridges, ! j etc. Ho expressed himself in favour of J ! a second ballot, in order that each member should represent an absolute majority of his constituents. Ho thongho an electoral right should enablo the elector to vote in whntevor part of the colouy he happened to bo. Mr leaser received a vote of thanks. Chiustchurcii. Juno 9. Mr Tanner addressed tho Avon electors at Philiipstown this ovouing. Inferring to tho lessoned intnrest in politico, ho said that tho legislating needed watching, and ho would be glad o sen tho impetus come from bolow us in 1800. Ho received a vote of thanks.
