Tke Supreme Court was occupied with a . charge of arson preferred against a woman named Sarah Buck, in connection with the destruction of a dwelling in Ghuznee-street last December. The ea«e was reserved from last sittings. Christchurch, June 5. At the Supreme Uourt to-day, Samuel Coleman (by his father, Robert Coleman) sued the St. Albans Borough Council for £200 damages. It was alleged on behalf of the plaintiff that in consequence of the negligence of the Borough Council in leaving a heap of road scrapings by the roadside he had, while crossing the road, stumbled over this heap and broken his left arm in two places. The jury awarded plaintiff £80 damages.

Invercargill June 5

The Supreme Court opened to-day before Mr Justice Williams. There are only four criminal cases, but a long civil list. A ysung man named Henry Arthur Stead, for breaking and entering, was admitted to probation for twelve months and ordered to pay half-a-crown a week towards the costs. John Trembath, for breaking and entering the Bank of New Zealand at Fortrose, and stealing £500, pleaded guilty. As all money except about £20 had been-restored, a sentence of only six months' was imposad. Edwin William Thomas got two months' for stealing a bicycle. George Attwood, for hersestealing, pleaded guilty and was ad mitted to probation for twelve months and ordered to pay four shillings per wsck towards the costs.
