Accidents and Fatalities.

Wellington, June 9. Two old identities died this morning. John O'Meava, aged 77, and John Elisha Smith, aged 75. Napier, June 4.
An inquest on the body of an unknown girl, aged about 20, found in the inner harbour, was held to-day. The evidence did not disclose the slightest shadow of identity. The body had not a stitch of clothing on when discovered. Medical testimony showed the girl was enciente. A verdict of found drowned was recorded. The case is shrouded in mystery. Christchurch, June 4. At the inquest on the body of A. E. Cooke, who was accidentally shot by a comrade-^at Lake Ellesmere, the juiy returned a verdict of accidental death. William Skelton, who had been charged with causing Cooke's death was then discharged. Auckland, June 5. A man named John Piller, who went fishing at Mangawai in a small punt on Friday, has not returned and is believed to have been drowned. A report reached Hunterville yesterday that several workmen had been buried in a landslip at the Makohine viai duct. Later on information was received that Mr C. Kenrick, who was standing j upon tha parapet of the tunnel, had fallen fifteen feat on to a truck of iran- i work below, then to the ground another I n>e feet. the accident happened j through a sudden jerk in a rops which ' he was adjusting causing him to lose his balance. Dv Smith, who attended shortly after the accident, found that one of Mr Kenrick's arms was broken between the wrist and elbow, and there : were several cuts about the face. The sufferer remained unconscious up to the train left, but the doctor has strong hopes of his recovery.
