A. BOER WOMAN'S PATHETIC J LETTER. X The following is a trans*^tio>y of a -letter found rolled up in the lizzie of a rifle taken from a dead Boer by one of our soldiers and forwarded to ?England. It is a letter from a wife to hor husband, who... was serving with Commandant Cronje at Modder Eiver :— "Dear Husband, —I am writing to you co-day to say we are all well, and I hope to be able soon to hear the same of . you. Dear husband, your letter of Jan. 14th reached me, and gave me great pleasure to receive. Wo havo had i-beatrtrful weather, and the harvest is jtboking splendid. Dear husband, it seems impossible to believe that uncle is dead; it is a dreadful sorrow for us, but what can we do *? It is God that has done this. Writo and let me know if you got the bread and cake safely. lam vory anxious, don't forget. Dear husband, you must promise mc that if you are taken ill on the field that you will get home at once.
