Accidents and Fatalities.
A peculiar fatality occurred at Walhalla (Victoria) on April 30th. A man named Brown while dismounting from his horse on a narrow siding, overbalanced himself, and clutched so eagerly ac his ho.se's mane as he fell that he pulled the animal over the siding with him. When picked up Brown's neck was found to be broken.
Mr Purkiss and his grand daughter, who were driving irom Sandon on Friday night, had a marvellous escape from a serious accident. The night was very dark, and the driver, mistaking the position of the road, turned too short round Home's corner. The off wheel of the bradley struck the bank and turned upside down. The occupants, fortunately, were thrown clear, and Miss Staite escaped without injury, while Mr Purkiss only received slight damage to his face. The horse dragged the vehicle half a mile, passing Mr Moore's en route, who succeeded in stopping it, and then rendered what assistance was required. —Advocate.
