MAFEKING MONEY AND STAMPS.
The Mafeking correspondent of the Cape Times, writing on April 4th, says: —" I reported a month back that silver being scarce had been supplemented by the issue of one, two, and three shilling notes. The natives are now hoarding gold, so that it has become necessary to issue ten shilling notes printed by letterpress in green. Colonel Drew prepared the block, and Mr Eiesle, host of the Mafeking Hotel, engraved it. One pound notes have been produced by photography from a sketch by the Colonel. Silver photo paper bein» scarce, Captain Greener, Chief Pay°. master to the Garrison, prepared ferr'oprussiate paper. Therefore these notes have a blue tint, but the effect is good By the same method we have also produced threepenny postal stamps, with the head of Colonel Baden-Pgwell m the centre.
