Patriotic Sports.

A meeting of the Patriotic Sports Committee was held last night, when there was a good attendance, Mr W. Rutherfurd occupying the chair, and Mr I. Fake's name was added to the committee.

The following gentlemen were appointed a canvassing committee:— Messrs Browning, Goodger and Bastin. The following officials were also appointed .-—Director of sports, Mr W. Rutherfurd; starter of athletic eventi, Mr T. Bastin; starter of cycling events, Mr I. Fake; starter of' Fire Brigade events, Mr W. Barnard; judges, Supt. Tingey, F. Pirani, M.H.R., J. R. Montague, H. Haydon, R. Goodger, J. R. Russell, L. G. West, W. T. Wood, F. Meyrick, W. Browning. A. Jack, M. Hodgins, D. Grant, D. Monro, A. McPherson, W. Park, J. W. Johnson; timekeepers, Messrs Haybittle and A. Merriman; chairman of procession committee, Mr A. Jack ; distance committee, Messrs T. Bastin, I. J. Fake and W. Lewis ; handicappers, for Fire Brigade events, the Brigade ; cycling events, W. Lewis; other events, the committee. The placing of men at the gates was left in the hands of the chairman, and the meeting then adjourned until Thursday next.

The nominations close on March 7th, and in this connection the committee desire it to be understood that this is not a gathering at which professionals will compete, but that it is a splendid opportunity for our rising young athletes to come forward and test their skill.
