Capetown, January 9. While General French's column was approaching Colesberg in Northern Cape Colony, the New Zealand Mounted Infantry offered to capture the enemy's big gun. .
General French, while he expressedadmiration for the colonials' pluck, refused to allow the attempt to be" made, declaring that the operation was too risky.
