The Mayor Baid he had called the meeting because there seemed to be some diversity of opinion as to wpom j the money collected by the committee i should be sent, whether it should go. to the flick and wounded soldiers or to the refugees. Personally he thought the money should be sent to the aid ol the sick and wounded. Thelundatthe disposal of the cojnmlUee was too smal/ to be divided, Mt-hn-antild, lilts, t advice ol the meeting on the point.. Mr J3; Leary said it might be advisable to inform all who had subscribed to the fund that they had a voice in the allocation of the money, as it might save some friction on the part of those who had subscribed under the impression that the money was going to the relief of the refugees. Personally he thought that if sent to the aid of the sick and wounded soldiers it could not go to a better object. • The Rev Mr Thomson said he thought the suggestion of tho Mayor's was the best, and it was apjJropriate that this should be done at this season of the year. He was concerned in the matter inasmuch as the congregation o» St. Andrew's Church had subscribed a sum ol £12 4s 6d and he felt anre that the managers of the church would-raise no "objection to the object of the fund being transferred from aid to the refugees to the sick and wounded. The Rev Mr Thomson then moved that the Mayor be instructed to send the money to the proper authorities for theaidofthAsickand wounded soldiers. Or Montague seconded the motion and it was carried unanimously. . It was resolved to bank at the union Bank, and that the account be operated upon by the Mayor, and Mi R, N. Keel,D§ir Keeling was elected Secretary. The Mayor reported that Mr A. Guy had offered to increase his donation to £52 10b, and that the Racing Club had obtained £04 Is by the means of the Transvaal Race at the recent meeting. The lists of donations wore then read out, and it was found that the Committee had £340 in hand, which will be sent away to-day. r On tha motion of Mr R. Leary, seconded by Or Montague a vote of thanks was passed to all who had contributed towards the fund. Special mention being made of the Churches, Band, and Racing Club. Or Montague asked if the Borough Councillors were tosnbßcribe in a body, and the Mayorexplained that that idea had been abandoned, the Councillors having subscribed individually. A voto of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
