MANAWATU RACES. During tbe afternoon yosterday the attendance inoreaaed considerably, and the nnmber of people present was about the same as tbe second day of last year. ONe sum of JE6057 was put through the totalisators, making a total of £15657 for the two days as against £15357 last year. Several ol the finishes were of an exoitlug nature, especially so in the Handioap Hurdles and the Christmas Hook Handicap. Theviatory of Boreas under aheavy burden in the President's Handicap was a popular odb, the winner andjookey being loudly ohsered on returning to scale. Tbe Hnrdle races were unfortunately marred by acoldents, but the jockeys were not so severely injured as at first supposed. 'Watershot, who had one of his lront legs broken in two plaoea, was destroyed. The stewards and officials again worked splendidly (or the suooess of tbe meeting.
