About midnight on March 10, Police-ooiistable Stone, 117 D. was on duty in Bellstreet, when Kenny, a notorious oftconvicted ruffian, with apparently the Bole of wiping off an old scoro, waylaid him, threw him to the ground, L Mid Saving almost disabled him by N fcioking him, struck huu violently about i the face and bit his hand tG the bono. -When nearly osbauated Mihs Fitz- • patrick appeared upon the scene and l promptly went to his assistance. She T took Kenny by the hair and tried to drag him off the constable, but Ming In that she clawed at his face with hor finger nails until she had compelled him to relinquish his hold. Sho BBBUted the officer to dotiiin him nn- ' til help arrived Kenny was aubsefluently charged and sentenced to six months' hard labour.-Police-con- j stable Stone, who is still on tho siok list, states that but for the young woman coming to his assistance and'holping to keep the rough mob at bay ho might well have been killed.-Superinfcendent Warner, in making the presentation to Miss Fltzpatriok, comnlimented her upon tho ' . physical and moral courage sho had exhibitea, cordially thanked hor on behalf of the police, and expressed the hope that the male population of that district Would emulate her example in aiding tho ooliee' to copo with lawless ruffians. Miss Fitzpatricls having suitably responded tho proceedings terminated.
