NAVAL DEFENCE OF THE COLONIES.

Premier of South Australia, in the course of an interview, referring to the Australian naval contribution, said he believed that the money could be put to a better use in South Australia. lie would prefer to see the whole of the Australian contribution dovoted to founding a training depot for local naval reserves. The Times is confident that Australia will renew its contribution to the Auxiliary Squadron, despite the remarks of Mr Kingston and other influential politicians.
