A CATHOLIC ON THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION.

(TO THE EDITOR DAILY STANDARD.) Sib, — It is most painful to our feelings as Catholics that our Protestant brethren should think for one moment that we ' have -sofai; forgot qurselves as to cast our lot at the next school committee election with with those who have outraged every feeling of love and veneration that is near and dear to the Catholic heart ' I '. am sorry to say that we cannot tafce any part m the coining election. Our stand is. on neutral ground. Our position on the battle -fied of education has been defined long ago. That we do not recognise or have- any part whatever m the present system of sectarian- : ism. With respect to school committees it matters little to us what parties are m power, low churchisrn or freetboughtisra. The former have closed the school door against God, and if the latter jret possession! of the key they most solemnly pledge themselves that the glorious rays of his divine Majesty shall not penetrate the sanctum of their unknown deity.- In conclusion, let us remember there is no midway for a Catholic. '• He that is hot with me," said our Divine Lord, " is . against m c, and he that gathereth not with : roe, scattereth abroad." — I am, &c, : J. F. Hanlon. Terrace End, June 8.
