TERRACE END SCHOOL MEETING.
(to the editor daily standard.*) Sir, — I notice a very misleading paragraph connected with the meeting of householders tit Terrace End, m which it set forth that " at a subsequent meeting" at the Princess Hotel, Messrs Walton, Stewart, and Woodroofe were unanimously nominated as members to be returned at the forthcoming election. For the correct information of the Terrace End inhabitants I beg to advise them that this kind of side wind writing has for its object, the defeakof- the resolution framed by them at the legitimate- meeting, at which it was decided that Messrs Sinclair and Linton are the two members nominated for Terrace End. I admit Several persons who attended the school meeting retired to the Princess j Hotel immediately afterwards. I also know from outward and visible signs that several persons ,previous to the meeting, had undoubtedly paid a visit, to the same favourite hostelry, but I question if their deliberations bad for their aim the well-being of the Terrace End School. Beware of all such tricks and all such misleading paragraphs, and doubt the honesty of purpose of any one who tries to put a false issue le fore the public for the purpose of deceiving the unwary • A few discontents at the meeting may stoop to such tricks, but their attempts will not succeed m this case, — I am, &c, Jamfs Linton. [From the above it. might be inferred that Mr Linton implies censure of our report df.thc proceedings at the meeting re school matters, on Thurpday evening, at Terrace End. But on the contrary Mr Linton personally assures us of his entire satisfaction with the full and impartial -'>m tin net m which the proceedings' were reported m the Daily Standard. Wha&Mr Linlon objects to is, that it slvquTCEo-forth to the public, that at a meeting, held 'subsequently to that' re ferred. to,. "Messrs Walton, Stewart, and Woodroofe'wero unanimously nominated as members to be returned at the forthcoming election." A meeting was held, however, at the place and with the result as stated, and therefore, we fail to see Mr Linton's justification, for using such terms as "very misleading paragraphs/ •' side-wind writing," " false issue," " deceiving tha unwary," " stoop to such tricks," &c, &c. We think. Mr Linton's letter would have carried more weight had these expressions beeu left out. EdM.D.S.]
