The Canterbury College Board of Governors resolved to-day to forward £150 to Professor you Haast to enable him to visit European cities, m order to obtain works of art and specimens for the museums. : Dunediv, Tuesday. At the inquest on the body of the wife of the Bey Mr Henshellwood, tne evidence of a medical man showed that death had resulted from inflammation of the lungs. Five cases of sly grosr-selling from Nenthorne were heard to«day, convictions with fines resulting m four cases. A man named Sou thgate was arrested for deserting his wife and family at Lyttelton. He has been remanded there. At a well-attended meeting this evening respecting the strike of compositors, resolutions were carried expressing! sympathy with the men on strike, declaring trades' nnions to be necessary as a safeguard to artisans and to the interests of society generally. It was also resolved that it was desirable to start a new morning paper m the interests of the working classes. Boycotting was spoken of, and has already been attempted. It is proposed that advertisers m the paper should not be supported. Invercargill. Tuesday. The Borough Council, as Harbor Board, have finally accepted the tender of Messrs Kincaid and McQueen for a harbour dredge. The matter has been m suspense for several montbs. The hull is now to be made of steel, and the contractors have been allowed an extension of time to get the plates from Britain.
