Finding of Human Remains at Foxton,
. On Wednesday evening last, whilst Messrs E. CuminerSeld and Gr. Edwards were walking along tho river bench m the bight between the Rey J. Duucan's house and Mr F. Robinson's house, they were surprised on Biiddenly coming «n to a dead body. Information was at ouce convened to Foxton, and m the absence of a constable, word was sent to constable Manning, of Palmerston, who m turn told Constable Oarr, (of Otaki, then en route per night train from FeildingJ, and that officer stayed at Foxton. Early next morning the Constable proceeded to the locality, and brought the remains to town. Unfortunately, the body proved to be beyond identification. THE INQUEST. Constable Carr (Otaki ) deposed — Should say the body had been m the water for at least three months ; one of the hands was missing; I am unable to say whether the remains are thoso of an European or a native; I have re* ceived no intimation of anyone missing ; I should take the body to be that of an aged person, a tall thin man; several teeth were missing. In answer to the coroner, Constable Carr said it was impossible to state whether or not any signs of violence .had existed on the body. After a brief deliberation, the jury returned a verdict of " Fouud dead." —Foxton paper.
