The Paltuerston Caledonian Society is to be congratulated on the entire success which attended its inaugural gathering yesterday, and which is an auspicious indication as regards its future career. We do not suppose a more successful .first meeting of a Caledonian Society hes yet taken place m the North Island, and the fact testifies to the unanimity and energy which characterised the Conijiii'ttee's -undertakings, from the preliminary- meeting right through to the successful, cohsuui mation attended yesterday. We look forward with pleasure jfco the next meeting, which will b&onNVfw Years' Day, 'and which it is proposed shall he an annual gathering — a permanent fixture on our district sporting calendar. There is every indication that the future gatherings of the Society promises to be exceedingly popular, and being held m this centrally situated town, they will derive support from the whole of the adjacent district, and will become more # universally patronised year by year.
