Fire at Auckland.
FURTHER PABTICULABS. PBESS ASSOCIATION.) " • '.'■•■ Auckland, Friday. At 5 o'clock this morning a fir* broke bnt m a large three-story boarding house m Queen Street, kept by Henry Borsboom. The walls of the hpuse are. of brick, but the partitions of wood. When the fire was discovered it had obtained a strong hold of the lower portion of the building. Borsboom showed great carelessness m directing his employes to save the boarders, and seven who were unacquainted with tht premises, jumped from the third floor, 30ft from the gronnd. One of them, name unknown, died after being conveyed to the Hospital. Edwin Neill. John Frosdyke, Thomas Orr, Hugh Me Louchlin, and Alfred Finch, were all conveyed to the Hospital . seriously injured. Borsboom was insured for . £80 m the Hamburg office, and estimates his loss at £500 over that. The Fire Inspector some time back reported to the City Council that th«« building was suitable for a boarding house. The accidents werecaused by a panic amongst some of the boarders.
