Upper Tao uui School
The annual report of the school committee to the householders df the Upper Taonui School District. That your committee m presenting their report, beg to state that the school shows no increase during the past year, the numbers now on the roll beirig b 8 as' against 76 at. the last annual meeting, showing a decrease of 8, but during the last few weeks there has been' un increase s ufficient to warrant your committee m applying for a pnpil teacher, there being now an average attendance of 50. .The .Inspector's examination which was held on the 24th September, 1885, was very favourable, the numbers presented, for examination were 36, of which 28 • was presented for standards, 17 passed, making a percentage of 68 r showing an improvement on last examination. That there has been expended during the year on the new play ground £1G 14s "3d for clearing, fencing, and drain. ing, also there has been an addition to the schoolmaster's residence by building v room., which was very much needed, at » cost of about £23. • The total amonnt of money received fr»m the Education Board during the past year has been £30 6s sd, and we have also received £4 by subscription, which makes the sum of £45 6s 5d ac tually received since our last annual meeting. " The. total amount expended during the year has been £42 -loff sd.' This does not include the addition- to the residence, but the sum of £2 19s lid brought forward from last year, which- leaves the Committe with V debit balance of £5 8s Id. •. - •=*• ■■-••-■ '. " Since the accounts •• were- audited -we have Tiad two eriterMnmerits which realised about £5. 105.8 d, which sum your Committee intended* irhould be spent in 'giving the children a" treat >br' else tofifces.' ■ " j* Your Committee have much pleasure m heating that since the report, Miss Johana Prendergast has been appointed pupil teacher. Your Committee have every reason to believe thai Mr Slipper "is conducting the school m a .satisfactory manner, and the children are progressing very well under his tuition. In conclusion we would earnestly draw your attention to the number of children on the roll as against the average attendance, and trust that you will use every endeavour to send your children regularly.
