Mechanical Genius m Manawatu.
A correspondent from Moutoa, Foxton, writes to the Post that two youths m .that district have each made a complete steam -engine, and run them by steam generated m oil drums. One of the youths m question has probably not seen an enpine more than a dozen times m his life. The cylinder of one engine is made out ot a piece of gun-barrel. The steam-chest is filed out of solid iron, and brazed ori to the cylinder. The engine is also fitted with fly-wheel, piston, shaft, and eccentric. The other cylinder is made out of a common piece of inch pipe, bored out. Neither of the youths have been to a trade, or ever seen any engineering work done. The only tools used, probably, were a saw file or two, drills of their own make, a chisel, and hammer. The names of tho youths are Edmund Furley and Edwin Hows.
