Accident on the WellingtonManawatu Railway Line.
[Post.] Four trucks brake away from a p-oods train on the Wellington-Manawatu Railway on Tuesday morning, about one mile and a half on the PHinmerton side of Pukerua. They rushed with terrific speed past Pukerua and through two tunnels, after which they collided with two empty trucks, which they pushed through No. 10 tunnel. They were eventually brought to a standstill, m consequence of several trucks [blocking up the way. Had they continued their course and entered No. 11: tunnel the consequences would probably have b«en most disastrous, as the drive is still m course of construction, and a large number of men who are employed m the face would probably have been seriously injured bj' the breaking of the timbers. A man named James Hamilton, was m No. 10 tunnel as the runaways • passed 'through,, and experienced a very narrow escape. Fortunately he had the presence of mind to lie down, and t ms allowed the trucks to pass over him.
