In the usual course Messrs F B. Jackton & CoY Waverley sale would be held ou the 23rd inst, but owing to that day being Good Friday, the sale has been postponed. The Jane Douglas will leave Foxton for Wellington on Wednesday at 4 p in. The Tui will leave Foiton for Wellington on Friday, at 6 p.m. On Saturday evening Mr and Mrs F. J, Jones J«ft.Wanganui by steamer for Wellington, en route for England. Messrs Thain.Tawse, and C. Bull will leave town on Wednesday for the same destination, i. v '• .V ' The mouth, of th» Clarence River, where the terrible Taiaroa disaster took place., is about half-way betwoen Cape Campbell and the iiaikoura Peninsula, and is not a place at all dangerous to ordinary navigation, as there are no outlying obstacles m that vicinity. The Taiaroa was a vessel of 226 tons,' and was under the ooimnand of Captain Thomson. — Herald. A stupid tybographical error occurred m last evening'a issue, which, m the hurry of proof-reading, escaped notice. The error had a comical side as well. The heading to a telegram appeared as follows .—"Dead body drowned." The reading should have been " Dead body found? "Another Old Fireman" writes m reply to a letter which appeared m another paper, the writer of which he assumes was a certain individual, for whom he" goes" m very strong language. As he may be quite wrong iv liis conjecture, we think it would be unfair to insert his letter, however wellgrounded his assertions or well-merited his censure of the action* of the person referred to. . We again remind oar readers of Messrs Snelson and Co.'s sale of Mr Gardiner's furniture etc., to take place at Hazeldene Cottage, College-street, to-morrow at 11 o'clock. Luncheon will be provided. Mr C. Peck," of Stoney Creek, intimates tthat ho has determined to prosecute any peraom found shooting on Sundays on his property. , We take the following items from the; Marton paper :— Mr R. Byddur. of Bulls had the misfortune to have his buggy smashed up one day last week. He was m the act oE unharnessing the horse from the buggy when; the animal took fright, and started off. After going" some hundred yards, ha disengaged himself from the vehicle, but not before he had contrived to break both shafts, and do considerable damage to the body of the bugey. — The employes m Messrs Begg & Co's store, at Bulls, were much startUd the oth«r day on discovering at the back entrance to the premises a large well, about 40ft. deep. It appeals that th«i well, which is said to be the first one sunk m Bull*, n »d been '•choked" at the top for some sever* feet down with loose timber and rubbish, and through the late heavy rains thia mass of rubbish h»d been loosened and had fallen to the bottom. One of tho employees narrowly esoaped meeting with a serious accident, as only: a few minutes before the fall he had passed over the spot.
