Manawau Road Board.
YESTERDAY. (Continuation of Report.) The Chairman stated he was glad to inform the Board 'that this year the balance sheets had been made out and were now ready to bo sent down to the audit department. If they had been lax m the past he was pleased to see that a start for the better whs now made, and he hoped the new Board would continne to keep matters straight and not let them get so far behind again. Mr Hamilton waited on the Board, re his road and bridge. He brought for the inspection of the Board specimens of the timber used m the repairs to the bridge. After hearing the deputation the Chairman asked what amount would be requited to make the necessary repairs to the road and bridge, and was informed that £20 Would be sufficient. He^would himself, he said, draw up plans and specifications for the work for that) amount, and submit them to the Board i on Tuesday next. This offer the Board { resolved upon accepting. Before leaving Mr Hamilton wished to know what about the money that had gone into the private Dockets of somebody, £12, _ he averred, had been paid for a 40s job, perhaps tho Engineer and Mr Sly would state whether they had any of it. The deputation then withdrew. Messrs Prenclergast and Batchelar waited on the Board, re expenditure on River Bank Road, the cost of making the ro.id would be £200. The residents were Messrs Beale, Prendergast and Batchelar, and Mrs FitzSirihiitJhs, "the rates coining m were about £30 a year. The deputation after discussion were requested to interview the Warden ,f or their district and state that the Board, subject to his approval, had consented to their using that years general rate on the road. CORRESPONDENCE. From Public Works Department, re loan of £700, for building the Mangaono i Bridge, asking for necessary particulars as to taking of poll, &c. From same, re road to Gorge from Fitzherbert, stating communication from Board had been ref ei red to the Colonial Secretary. Me .£'sl2 granted for the construction . of bridges on Karere Road, .stating that same could not be ' used for the work of making the road to the Gorge. From ' Treasury, forwarding £250, final payment of grant for Kairanga Main Dram. From Crown Lands, covering statement showing amount at credit of the Board m respect of land disposed of on deferred payment up to 31st Dec. 1885, Arawaru district, No. 5 Ward, £42 14s Id ; Kairanga, No. 6 Ward, £66 12s Id ; Kairanga, No. 5 Ward, £9 13s . 10d ; total, £119. From Crown Lands, stating that Mr Barrand capitalized the unpaid instal { ( tnents on sec. 1563, Block X, Kairanga, on 25th August, 1884, and paid amount, £272 ss, on' the same date. Stating also that the Department noticed that onethird of this amount was included m the payment of £251 Is, passed on the 19th March 1885. . From J. Hughes, Kairanga, asking that road be formed past property, _ writer expected her money to be spent ' there. From John and James Stubb3, Kai ranga, re improvement of road to sec. 1241, Block V, Kairanga, staling that £21 was paid to Land Board m January, and expecting that £ of this amount would be spent as usual. From Jas. Knight, asking Board to spend £10 on cutt;ug a siding down on road to his property m Fitzherberl as he wanted to get a cart through 1 with seed, wire, Sic. From R. W. Harvey, Wanganu Col- • lege School, stating he. had a .receipt for rates up to April Ist, 1886. :., . .,.' From Mr P. Fair, re rates, forwarding cheque for amount claimed, £4 17s 6d, Lut intimating that he intended to sue the Board for same amount, he having paid such for county rates after the county rate was abolished. / From E. W. Collins, asking permission to swing a gate across road lead ing to Bunnytkorpe, where fence now stands. '•■■":. From Messrs J. Mowleih, ; C. W. Robert, J. Linton, R. Kibblewhite, G. Innes, J. Lawrenson, F. C. Dewsbury, and O. Tiller, asking refund for bushfailing made some years back, amount £2 eaoh. . . .;■■.-...■ Mr Gallaway waited on the Board, complaining of drainage water overflowing his section 158, Kairanga, requesting an outlet from road -drain to main drain. Warden. Mathieson moved, seconded by Warden Sly and carried — That the culvert asked for be made, also that the upper side of the ditch be cleaned out for sor 6 chains. ■. • ■ . Mr Manson waited on the Board, re bridge required on the Bunny thorpeAshurst Road leading to. his property.. j Warden Edwards proposed that £30 be spent m draining the road leading to ( the bridge, and m the construction of. the bridge itselt. Timber to be supplied by Mr Manson and other settlers. . Seconded by Mr Mathieson and carried. The Secretary was instructed to apply to the Manawatu County Council for proportion of outlay Awahuri Bridge. TENDERS. Road maintenance (for three years): — G. Hansen, C. Warden Mathieeoa applied to have £34, coming from Messrs Stubbs »nd Hughes' deferred payment sections, spent on No. 1 Line, Bunnythorpe-Kairanga Road. Agreed to. The Secretary was instructed to give notice of intention to strike a general rate of £ d. A number of accounts were passed for payment and the Board adjourned.
