He said the 1 Act was very, strict; . There was a story told, of a candidate who on. his canvass called at a house. The man was out; but he asked his wife if, she thought she could riot get her husband's vote/ She roplied she was not sure, as he was a man of strong principles. The candidate was a little sorrjf, but noticing k cat aud some kittens by the fireside,, a bright idea struck' him. He offered to buy one of those kittens' for £5. The woman tobk the money and gave him the kitten. He then said : ' Now you'll bo able to influence your husband.'' She answered — u Tin no sae sure.'
