The Crops in the South.
So far as the greater-portion of Canter. , bury is concerned, the crops appear to b© very much under-estimated. The Christchurch Press gives .the following particulars of yields as threshed out :— At ' Kaiapoi a paddock of wheat had yielded " 78 bushels per acre, exclusive of seconds. .-< At Bavenswood - a paddock of oats had . given out 71 bushels. At Woodend a,, paddock of oats gave out 63£ bushels. A^t Banner Downs, ..Fernside, 105 acres gave 0ut. 49 bushels. per acre. At, AshleyDownsilßo acres' of wh6at and oata gave. out. aj return of 31£ bushels. At .-. , Woodend. a, crop of oats put down to yield 35 bushels per acre .'yielded 50 bushels. At West Eyreton T a field of wheat estimated to return 35 to 40^buehels has yielded 51,bushels/; and over a large farm here therejis a return of fully 53 tofid^" bushels per acre all; round.; Ifi th% paddock at Rangiora.where the Howard reaper trial took place the actual yiSld was within-.a-itrifle of \4O bushfelsiperi.^ acre— rthft^imated by us being 30 to 35 bushels^; "and this is the lightest,. crop that Mr .Buss has on his farm. where the estimated yield was underestimated, and the returns from"the"tHresh-ing-machines for this season's harvest are! most satisfactory.
