Aru we; really to assume that judgement must } go by default, au-i that there is no ili-firnce to be made, aad that tho Exmutivi' Committees are really guilty of the scandalous neglect of duty of which they j»re openly accused We are most reluctant to accept the conclusion which the strange silence of all the members of the late Committee appears to force upon us, but m the absence of any explanation there will be no alternutive. This would be very deplorable for many reasons. It would leave a permanent stigma on the city m which the Exhibition took place, and upon evpry person concerned m so disgrace- i ful an affair. Every member of the late Committee is involved m the discredit of the affair until it stall be cleared up and the blame placed on the right shniilii-tre. The matter cannot be * a lowed to rest. Tho good name of thic. city, and of the local Committee, as well as the: int«reatß of tlie'\exhibitors, who entrusted their property m firm confidence that it would be cared for and duly returned by them as pronnsed, alike demand that the scandal shall be probed to the bottom, ami- tho responsibility justly allocated. It is shameful that such a gross injuryshould -.have been done to the exhibitors who confined m the honour and good faith of ih» Committee, and we are greatly surprised that its members can rein.- m sileilt under such a very serious stigma.
