There was a considerable amount of excitement m- the city andi southern suburbs this afternoon, when it was rumbured that aihostile mob was marching m from Greenwich and Deptford. The rumour proved to be incorrect, but the majority of the shops closed, and a hundred extra policemen were stationed m various points wherever groups .of rbiighs congregated. The events of the last few days have given rise to a very general feeling of uneasiness among the residents of the metropolis. Special pre cautions are being adopted by the authorities to preserve order.
