He was met twenty miles off by the members for the district and the Weßtland County Council, and at the town boundary by the Mayor, borough councillors and a number of townspeople. He was sooorded an enthusiastic welcome at the Town Hall. The town was brilliantly illuminated m his honor. According to an English paper one of the greatest medical discoveries of modern times, a cure for dipsomania, has been made by physicians. It says : ■'The alkaloid cocaine, which is* still the subject of numerous experiments has been found to be a cure for dipso. mania. It has been known for ages that chewers of cocoa-leaf do not resort to spirits as a stimulant, they do not experience that craving for drink which is so common with men and women of the same social rank with us, and, indeed,in higher spheres also.
