Manawatu Standard. (PUBLISHED DAILY.) The Oldest Daily Newspaper on the West Coast. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 4. 1866. THE MEAT FREEZING INDUSTRY.
. - ■ .»., • : v- ' '.-Wai According to the W,aipawa Jfailphere is a possibility of steps being taken to set a company on foot with the object of establishing, meat freezing, -exporting, and preserving works, on a very large scale. The, companyls operations mfcy be made to extend throughout the whole of the colony, or they may perhaps be confined to freezing sbeep m the Hawke's Bay Province. In any case, if successfully floated, it will make a great point m placing the meat on the'London'market. It is considered by some < that? nothing short of co operation , amongst, the wookgrowers -■will' enable them tci obtain the highest prices .at Home. New Zealand meat is sold by London retail butchers as prime English — this is a well known fact — and shipments do riot always arrive so conveniently as would be the case if the trade were cerrried on on co-operative principles. Nocomplaints are made against the companies which: exist,, but it is felt that nothing short of co-operation between the grower of the meat and the man who sells it m a retail manner can enable the fullest advantage of price and market to be obtained.-
