A DETERMINED PROTEST.
An influential meeting of policyh'olders m the Government Life Assurance Association was held, the amount of policies represented being i-35,000. The following resolutions were carried after various amendments had been proposed* and rejected : — lst. " That this meeting strongly condemns the appointment made at the Dunedin branch of the Government Life Association, believingit to,be dictated forjp')litical purposes rather than for the interests of tha policy-holders, and we desire the Board to cancel the said appointment, and m future confer such important positions on tried . and faithful servants of the Association." 2nd. " The- action of the Board m the wasteful expenditure of money m the purchase of sites and contemplated erection of expensive buildings is unwise, ■unwarranted;; *andpre-. judicial to the interests of the Association, and directly opposed to the economii&Lsyatemjoi working claimed joy the,/ Government ' m "£h*e " past! 1 '' * '3rd. This* meeting suggests that policyholders insist upon the business of the Association being conducted ' independent of party influ -nee, and oppose it being' made, the m- it is of 'official patronage and corruption ; and, m order that it' may be- above suspicion, recommend. that an alteration m the Act be secured,, so that policyholders may be able to elect at least onehalf of the members of the Board and v have a voice m the selection of chairman." " 4th* That the above 1 resolutions be forwarded to the Board per favor of Mr G. Fisher, requesting that gentleman to bring them under the notice of his colleagues." ... .
