Fire at Taonui.
On Friday afternoon a fire i broke out 7 dose to'Mr Ad'sett'B mill, and m a short space of time the mill and houses near were surrounded by a mass of flame. A number of the houses of the inch were burnt entailing a great loss on the'occtf-' 'piers ; fortunately by great exertions, and the wind calming down the mill was saved\ A quantity of lately felled bush i belonging to Messrs Bailey Bros., was •burnt and^ihe .houses along Ad^eU's line were m fc* perilous situation'/* being surrpua^ed ; by ,fire but happily . so far they; have escaped, although the ' logs"" ana ■stumps lying: around are still burning. ' On a message arriving at Messrs Bailey's mill, all hands at once went to the assis- : tance of their neighbour, accompanied by 1 horses and trucks to remove timber, furniture, &c, m fact every one who could jdo anythiug?went,Aand' it was, only by ; great exertions that the flames were pre- ! vented from attacking the mill.
